I have owned my 748bp for 3.5 years, waaaaay longer than most.
It is my first and only Bike. Why? Call me a Poser, but I was a happy man.
Riding it home was frightening. Imagine this: I just spent 10.5k on a bike,,
it was cold, wet, dark, open faced helmet, and I was Sh*tting myself!!
I actually went to buy a BMW convertible, until I laid eyes on the Ducati.
When I bought my house, one of the prerequisites was being able to park my
Ducati in my bedroom!!
I didn't even have a license or a bike at that stage!! But I knew I wanted a
Ducati. Am I obsessive or what?
Driving to Bike meets, going to a club, shopping, training, it was attention
all the way, and it felt good.
However all that attention had a price, the bike when its running is good,
but when its faulty, its very Bad.
In 3 .5 years I have spent an estimated 6-£7K on maintenance and general
running costs. (including a new engine, wiring loom, 4 rectifiers, 2
generators, cracked engine casings, various oil leaks, buckled
wheels, numerous punctured tires, and then all the personalizing I have done)
There is always a problem, when you fix one thing ,something else goes.
Hey, I am a fair weather rider, it doesn't see rain ,unless I get caught out.
So why all this problems? My brother and Friends all ride JAP bikes, they
just turn the key and go. One guy hasn't serviced his bike 3 years!!
The dealers aren't very good either, Unless your spending loads of money
with them, they aren't interested in helping really.
Why put up with this?
I have spent a lot of time and money into this Bike, and now I guess I'm
attached to it, so its hard to let go. After X-amount of Track days, and
illegal pursuits around the countryside with likeminded friends, I am now a
speed junkie for good.
From a standard red 748 Duc to my version of Infostrada Duc,
New 916 engine
Bora Open pipe conversion,
Reprogrammed EPROM
Infostrada decal kit
Black wheels,
Polished rear sets,
braided hoses
race spec plugs
Carbon guard, and V-piece.
If I give up my Duc, I have to give up Biking, and that's out of the
question.
Peace
