MY VIEWS BY WAYNE PHILLIPHS
After a 10-day wait I got to D&K motorcycles to pick up my new acquisition
a 1997 red Ducati 916.
I was part chopping a 1999 GSXR750, nice bike but it’s just a Suzuki! Paid £6200,
one year on all they would give me was £4300.
‘Neil come to pick up my bike’, ‘Owe were running a bit behind you don’t mind
waiting?’
Five hours later I got my first sit on the bike, first impressions:
Looks ‘a true pedigree’
Suspension very firm.
Funny place for the ignition!.
Engine sounds like a bag of nails.
Exhaust note ‘so sweet’.
Seat, like a plank of wood.
Controls all in write place
Dials ‘all I need to know’.
Grin factor ‘ear to ear’.
Now for my first ride,
If you think all bikes are the same then think again, where has this bike been
all my life?,
I feel like when I was on my first 125 aged 17, scared of nothing, living for
the moment.
Nothing done to excess you feel part of the bike, cornering wow!, torque ‘what
gear am I in’ pulls from anywhere. Acceleration got my eyes running.
Iam frayed to say after only 100 miles if it’s a choice between the bike or
the miss’s, where’s my helmet.
Only complaints:
A little backache, flat arse and a stiff clutch wrist, but I think I can live
with all of this after all it’s a Ducati.
